Launch of first ISDR Prevention Series publication, “Usoi Landslide Dam and Lake Sarez, An Assessment of Hazard and Risk in the Pamir Mountains, Tajikistan”

The ISDR Secretariat launched the report “Usoi Landslide Dam and Lake Sarez, An Assessment of Hazard and Risk in the Pamir Mountains, Tajikistan”, the first publication in a new “Prevention Series” established by the Secretariat for ISDR.

The report is the result of an assessment mission organised by the Secretariat for ISDR in conjunction with OCHA, UNDP, UNEP, the World Bank, the CIS Interstate Council for Emergency Situations, Focus Humanitarian Assistance, USAID and the US Geological Survey. Lake Sarez was formed after an earthquake created a natural dam (the Usoi Dam) in 1911. The resistance of the dam is at stake. More information on the publication can be obtained from the UN Secretariat for ISDR.

This publication is available only in English, please contact the ISDR Secretariat. isdr@un.org ó
