Second Pan American Course on Mass Migration


This activity will be carried out for the 5th to the 11th of November in San José, Costa Rica. It is organized by the Geotechnical Association of the College of Civil Engineers in Costa Rica. Course for Managers on Health, Disasters, and Development


The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the Regional Office of the World Health Organization (WHO), through their Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Relief Coordination Program (PED-PAHO/WHO), will offer an intensive two-week-and-a-half course for managers whose responsibilities now involve, or may involve in the future, emergency and disaster management, both in the private and public sectors and in civil society organizations. The course will be held in Quito, Ecuador, from 30 August to 15 September 2000. The course will only be available in Spanish.

International Field Volcanology Course in the Central Andes

This field volcanology course has already been taught on six previous occasions in recent years. With the sponsorship of UNESCO, it will be held in Salta, Argentina, from 9 to 17 October 2000.

Participating professors will include José Viramonte, Beatriz Coira, and Ivan Petrinovic from Argentina; Raymond Cas from Australia; and Guillermo Alvarado from Costa Rica.
