Invitations to Official Delegations

UNISDR has circulated the official invitation of Margareta Wahlström, Special Representative of the Secretary - General for Disaster Risk Reduction, to all Permanent Missions of the Americas before the Unites Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva and New York; This invitation has been sent to the national risk management systems and foreign ministries, in order to form Official Delegations of the highest order, including professionals from the community, nongovernmental organizations, specialists from academic and technical institutions, the private sector, parliamentarians, mayors, and especially children and youth, recognizing their critical role in risk reduction.

Hence, public and private sectors at regional, national and local levels; international organizations; intergovernmental nongovernmental and community organizations; scientific and academic institutions; donors and media, are cordially invited to save the date from May 27 to 29, 2014 and participate in the various activities planned for the RP14

IGNITE stage

The space for the presentation of innovative projects and initiatives in disaster risk reduction, better known as IGNITE stage, will have sessions every 20 minutes over the three days of the RP14, which will be broadcast live over the Internet. The purpose of this space is to expand the range of issues discussed in the Regional Platform, beyond those presented in the main sessions and side events. Ecuador and sponsoring institutions

The RP14 is conducted under the auspices of the Republic of Ecuador through the Department of Risk Management and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the Office of Disaster Assistance Abroad - U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID/OFDA) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (COSUDE), with the support of the Advisory Board*.

Ecuador is located in the northwest of South America, is traversed by the Equator and is divided into four regions: Amazonia, Andes, Costa and Galapagos. Beaches, coves, savannahs and international business centres such as Guayaquil, are characteristic of la Costa.
