Save the date: IV Session Regional Platform for DRR 2014

On behalf of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, UNISDR, we are pleased to announce that the Fourth Session of the Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction of the Americas (RP14), will be held from Tuesday 27 to Thursday 29 of May, 2014 in Guayaquil Ecuador.

The recognized multi-sectoral forum will gather key stakeholders in disaster risk reduction and resilience building from all over the continent, to promote the participation and knowledge sharing in strategic planning, monitoring and collective decision-making to accelerate the implementation of the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA 2005-2015) by linking regional, national and local actions.

Thanks to the sponsorship of the Republic of Ecuador through the Secretariat of Risk Management and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as the support of the Advisory Council of the RP14*, we expect to exceed the participation of the previous Session with more than 400 participants from 37 countries, who will be sharing achievements, commitments and proposals on DRR and resilience building.

Hence, government representatives at regional, national and local level; international, intergovernmental, non-governmental and community organizations; scientific and academic institutions; private sector, donors and media, are cordially invited to save the date from 27 to 29 of May, 2014 and participate in the various activities planned for the RP14.

Previous Session, Chile 2012

At the close of the III Session of the Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction of the Americas, held in Santiago de Chile in November 2012, participants agreed commitments and mechanisms for DRR and resilience building, which were reflected in the "Communique of Santiago: Investing for Resilience".
