Preparedness for boys and girls while listening to the sounds of flowing water

As a direct result of the floods that occurred in the municipalities of Sagua de Tánamo and Mayarí, in Eastern Cuba, it is with great pleasure that we can announce that through the project entitled “Preparadas y preparados escuchando las aguas” [Preparedness for boys and girls while listening to the sounds of flowing water], the goal of involving children and youth in local risk management was achieved. This initiative was supported by Save the Children, United Kingdom and the Disaster Preparedness and Prevention Program of the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid Office (DIPECHO), and was implemented by the Provincial Boards of the Ministries of Education and Science, Technology, and the Environment in Holguín, Cuba.

Written by those who developed the project itself, the main publication compiles in a straightforward manner the primary methodologies used during the project’s implementation, as well as the lessons learned. Our goal is to be able to disseminate our experience so that our readers take it into consideration as working material. In this manner we will also contribute to enhancing similar initiatives that are developed in different contexts.
