SD-learning: Reaching sustainable development through knowledge

SD-Learning is a capacity building event consisting of multiple courses on sustainable development, such as food security and sustainable agriculture, energy access and efficiency, sound water and land management, sustainable cities, management of the oceans, improving resilience and disaster preparedness and transition to green economy. The courses seek to provide participants with practical knowledge and hands-on training from experts around the world. The full schedule of courses will be released April 2012. Participants are advised to register in advance in order to secure their participation.

Courses should cover one of the following topics

• Food security and sustainable agriculture
• Management of the oceans
• Improving resilience and disaster preparedness
• Management of the oceans
• Transition to green economy (including job creation, poverty reduction, growth opportunities)
• Coordinating institutional work at national level and integrating the work of different sectors and ministries
• Sustainable consumption and production
• National legal frameworks conducive of sustainable development
• Monitoring progress towards sustainable development (including indicators, national accounts, beyond GDP, etc.)
• Means of implementation (financing, technology)

Selection of courses

Generally, courses will be selected on the basis of their quality, relevance and balance of topics. One course will be selected by the public through online voting. The final selected courses and schedule will be posted on this website.


Instructors are expected to be senior experts from international or national organizations, academia or private sector, with hands-on expertise in the course-subject. Co-organization of courses by different stakeholders is encouraged.

What is included in the event fee

Costs and funding

Room and presentation facilities will be provided for. Other costs associated with the course, such as travel and accommodation of presenters, other course material, etc., are to be borne by the course organizers or their sponsors. Limited funding may be explored for experts from developing countries.
