Towards a culture of prevention fostered by education.

Proceedings of the International Seminar and Workshop on Disaster Prevention and Response in Education, Lima, Peru, November 2003.

The main goal of this Seminar/Workshop was to enable the Ministry of Education (MINEDU) the National Institute of Civil Defense (INDECI) and the National Assembly of Rectors (ANR) to introduce jointly and in an integrated manner educational and training proposals in the area of disaster prevention among teachers. In addition, the workshop explored ways to disseminate existing knowledge in this field, in line with the strategies established by the National Plan for Disaster Prevention and Response.

The workshop was also aimed at formulating proposals for curricular content related to disaster prevention and response within basic (primary, secondary and adult) and higher (technological and university) education.

By distributing this publication among authorities, institutions and teachers, INDECI and ITDG seek to contribute to establishing a culture of prevention in Peru, which may be achieved by incorporating knowledge on disaster prevention and response into the current national education system.
