New Training Material On Disaster Mitigation from PAHO/WHO

Principles of Disaster Mitigation in Health Facilities
This interdisciplinary publication replaces and updates several documents previously published by PAHO. More graphical resources have been included, as well as case studies regarding vulnerability assessment and mitigation measures in health facilities throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.

A small number of copies are available through the Regional Disaster Information Center for Latin America and the Caribbean (CRID). You may also find the book on the Internet at the following Web address: www.PAHO.org/spanish/ped/pedsres.htm.

CD-ROM on Disaster Mitigation in Health facilities

PAHO has produced this CD-ROM to facilitate the dissemination of key documents on disaster mitigation in health facilities. Books and slides in electronic format comprise this CD, which will also be made available over the Internet. Its contents include:

  • Two new sets of slides on structural and non-structural components of disaster mitigation in health facilities, presenting in graphic format (PowerPoint) the basic steps needed to take concrete mitigation measures. Two technical scripts are also included to guide presenters during training activities.
  • The new publication, Principles of Disaster Mitigation in Health facilities, is included in its entirety in Adobe Acrobat PDF format, as is the book Lessons Learned in Latin America on Disaster Mitigation in Health Facilities, originally published in 1997.

A limited number of copies are available through the Regional Disaster Information Center for Latin America and the Caribbean (CRID).
