Course on Disaster Risk Reduction at the Local Level
The course will be taught intensively at University for Peace, between February 4th and 22nd, 2008 and from then on annually during the second semester.
The course purpose is to equip student practitioners in environment, peace and security with enhanced knowledge, skills, resources and technical abilities in disaster risk reduction and health resilience. The course provides the tools either to prevent such disasters, to mitigate their impacts or to resolve conflicts between different social groups. UPEACE has available five scholarships for practitioners from the Central American or Caribbean regions to attend this course.

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM), in Kingston, Jamaica, presents the fifth installment of the National Disaster
Management Conference (NDMC) to be held March 5-6, 2008. In cooperation
with several non-government agencies and private companies, the 2008
Conference will address two very important areas of risk management and
risk reduction: landslides and earthquakes. The Conference programme includes speakers from
across the field in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean and other parts of the
world.
