Workshop for the designing of the Urban Risk and Municipal Environments Thematic Platform in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Within the initiatives of the first Global Platform of the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction meeting (June, 2007); The United Nations, secretariat of the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction, regional unit for the Americas has began the design and implementation of a thematic platform on urban risk. As part of this process a workshop will take place in Panama, the 7th and 8th of February 2008. Course  on Disaster Risk Reduction at the Local Level
The course will be taught intensively at University for Peace, between February 4th and 22nd, 2008 and from then on annually during the second semester.
The course purpose is to equip student practitioners in environment, peace and security with enhanced knowledge, skills, resources and technical abilities in disaster risk reduction and health resilience. The course provides the tools either to prevent such disasters, to mitigate their impacts or to resolve conflicts between different social groups. UPEACE has available five scholarships for practitioners from the Central American or Caribbean regions to attend this course.

We are pleased to inform you that It will start the Second Series of the Forum on Good Practices on "Risk and hydrological extremes: Early Warning Capacity and Resilience Floods", the first Conversation Session (Chat) will be on Thursday 13 March 2008, between 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm (ET of the USA),in this opportunity the  Eng. Isaiah Montoya General Director of Water Resources of the Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies, INETER, will explore the experience of the Early Warning System Community - Escondido River in Nicaragua.

This Forum on Good Practices and the presentation of the case study are open 24 hours, 7 days a week, so you can participate by writing comments and suggestions on the "Post".
