Regional Course on “Strategic Management for Disaster Risk in Nicaragua and the Region”

With the objective of contributing with development and strengthening of human resources in Nicaragua and the region through the exchange of experiences; is going to take place in Managua, Nicaragua the regional course “Strategic Management for Disaster Risk in Nicaragua and the Region”. The workshop is divided in two parts, the first will be from August 19 to 21 and the second from August 27 to 28, 2008. The workshop is aimed to experts of different disciplines and geographical areas that could share with social actors in Nicaragua and the region possible solution proposals to the numerous challenges posed.

International Workshop on Coastal Hazards and Tsunamis

With the coordination of UNESCO's Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (UNESCO/IOC), the United States Agency for International Development’s Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID/OFDA), UN/ISDR secretariat and with the support of the Panamanian Maritime Authority, it has been organized the workshop “Good Practices in Preparation and Readiness of the Community for Tsunami and other Coastal Hazards in Central America and the Caribbean. Experts, planners and leaders from the region will share their experiences in development of community based programs. The 3-day workshop will produce a compilation of best practices to be shared with the international community.

GEOSS Symposium

The Group on Earth Observations (GEO) is an intergovernmental body composed of 74 governments, the European Commission and 51 international organizations working together to build a Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) and are currently organizing the 2nd GEOSS Symposium in the Americas.

The goal of the Symposium is to increase understanding of GEOSS in the region, raise awareness about existing GEOSS activities, strengthen partnerships, and advance a dialogue about opportunities, capabilities, and requirements. The 2nd GEOSS in the Americas Symposium affords an opportunity to deepen and broaden GEOSS implementation activities in the Americas, building on the success of the 2007 symposium in Brazil.
