Hyogo Framework for Action

Marco de Accion de Hyogo. Governments around the world have committed to take action to reduce disaster risk, and have adopted a guideline to reduce vulnerabilities to natural hazards, called the Hyogo Framework for Action (Hyogo Framework). The Hyogo Framework assists the efforts of nations and communities to become more resilient to, and cope better with the hazards that threaten their development gains.

Urban Risk Management in Latin America: Compendium of articles

La Gestion de Riesgo Urbano.

This publication presents a selection of articles carried out within the framework of the Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Americas and the Urban Risk Thematic Platform in particular. The thirteen articles included here reflect diverse perspectives and interests surrounding disaster risk in several cities of Latin America. The authors, real actors from cities both large and small, face tangible issues of disaster risk in distinct settings.

This online interactive encyclopedia surrounding disaster risk reduction is open to any DRR-related topic of interest and currently includes national pages with useful information for all countries and overseas territories belonging to the Americas region, as well as a large and ever-increasing number of pages and articles surrounding transversal themes and topics of interest to the DRR community.

II Hemispheric Encounter and National Mechanisms and Networks for Risk Reduction.

The Second Hemispheric Encounter on National Mechanisms and Networks for Disaster Risk Reduction: “Encounter of Santa Marta: From Theory to Practice,” which will be held on 14-16 April, 2010, in Santa Marta, Colombia.

The Encounter of Santa Marta is being convened and organized by our Government, through the Ministry of the Interior and Justice and its Directorate for Risk Management for Disaster Prevention and Relief (DGRPAD), the General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (GS/OAS), through its Department of Sustainable Development (OAS/DSD), and the Secretariat of the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR), through its Regional Office for the Americas, UNISDR Americas.

The main objective of the Encounter is to foster the sharing and exchange of successful experiences and good practices in Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Adaptation, as implemented by existing National Mechanisms and Networks in the hemisphere. The ultimate goal is to advance the establishment and strengthening of National Platforms for Disaster Risk Reduction under the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA).
